Just over 100 years ago a young Spanish winemaker set up vineyards and a winery in Hawke’s Bay. 100 years later a young Hawke’s Bay winemaker spent two years in Spain experiencing the wine, food and culture.
That young Hawke’s Bay winemaker was me. The locals affectionately called me Toño.
When our family shifted back to Hawke’s Bay after many years in Marlborough we were delighted by the changes in the local food culture, gourmet produce, restaurants and amazing food stores and markets. It struck us, and many others, that Hawke’s Bay really is the Spain of New Zealand!
We celebrate that ancient culture, the past connections between Spain and Hawke’s Bay and the future direction of food and wine in our great region with the Toño range.
The range comprises of four Spanish styles or varietal wines, a Rosado (Rose), a Moscatel, an Albarino and a Tempranillo all grown and made locally. Each wine is crafted in a fresh contemporary style and are perfect for drinking on long Hawke’s Bay days and into the evening.
